NEW COMMIT: U.S. Open qualifier Mac Boyle of Katy, Texas, has announced his verbal commitment to Indiana University and will suit up for the Hoosiers as a member of the class of 2024.

Primarily a backstroker, Boyle does his club swimming with Katy Aquatic Team for the Youth and capped off his successful long course season by earning six best times at NCSAs this past summer where his highest finish was a sixth-place showing in the 50m back. Last winter, he raced both backstroke events at Juniors West before going on to place 12th in the 100 back at College Station Sectionals. Also competing for The Village School, Boyle is a five-time TAPPS Division I State Championship finalist. He won the 100 back and 100 fly as a junior while earning bronze in the former event during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“I am really excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming journey at the University of Indiana. I want to thank my family, coaches and friends for their ongoing support. I’d also like to thank all the coaches at IU who made me feel so welcome on my visit, and very much looking forward to being part of the IU family. Go Hoosiers!”

His best times include:

  • 100 back – 50.31
  • 200 back – 1:50.25
  • 200 IM – 1:56.08

Boyle will add valuable depth to the Hoosiers’ lineup when he arrives in Bloomington at the start of the 2020-21 season. Under head coach Ray Looze, Indiana is coming off their second-straight third-place finish at the men’s 2019 NCAA Championships after securing their third-consecutive Big Ten title.
