BOSTON, Massachusetts, October 6. Gavin Springer of Sidwell Friends School and Nation’s Capital Swim Club has verbally committed to attend and swim for Harvard University beginning in the fall of 2015.

Springer, who’s ranked 48th in the class of 2015 and third in the state of Maryland by Collegeswimming.com, should be a big contributor in the middle distance and distance freestyle events for the Crimson. He’s posted times of 1:38.29 in the 200 free, 4:24.33 in the 500 free, 9:08.17 in the 1000 free and 15:19.66 in the 1650 free. Both Springer’s 500 and 1650 times are already under the 2015 NCAA B cut in those events; in the mile, he’s already cleared the B cut by 11 seconds.

Springer has the potential to score major points for the defending Ivy League champions when he arrives next fall. He would’ve placed fifth in the 1000 free, sixth in the 1650 free and 500 free and 10th in the 200 free at the 2014 Ivy League Championships.
