NCAA D2 Meets to Watch this Week

As the regular season comes to a close and the Championship season is upon us, there are some exciting races to watch this weekend. While 99% of the top 25 Division 2 teams are off this weekend, a few schools are looking to close their season with a bang.

1. Northeast Conference 10 Championships

For the Assumption, Bentley, Le Moyne, Pace, Saint Rose, Adelphi, St. Michael’s, Merrimack and Southern Connecticut teams, their season is coming to a close this weekend at the the Northeast 10 Conference Championships. The meet is being hosted by Assumption College at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Last year Assumption College took first place for the women and Southern Connecticut State University won for the men. Both teams are predicted to swim again this year. However, on the men’s side PACE University has a had a strong season and will put up some strong competition for the Owl’s and last year’s number two team, Bentley. On the women’s side, Assumption has had a strong season overall and is still on top of the charts with Bentley looking to be a close second.

2. NYU Invite

New York University, US Merchant Marine Academy and LIU Post will face off this weekend at the NYU Invitational. NYU is looking to come out on top for both their men’s and women’s teams, but LIU Post will put up some challenging competition for the Bobcats.

The NYU men hold the top times in every event this weekend against Merchant Marine. On the women’s side it will be a back and forth battle between LIU Post and NYU. LIU Post’s Meghan Brazier will challenge the Bobcat’s in the sprint freestyle and backstroke events. NYU’s Rebecca Gibs is looking to sweep the breaststroke events. The relays will be toss up between the two schools, with LIU Post seeded ahead in both the 200 freestyle and medley relays, while NYU is seeded first in the 400 freestyle and medley relays.

3. Azusa Pacific vs Concordia vs Biola

In California this weekend Asusa Pacific, Concordia and Biola are set to compete. The Concordia men are looking to take a win and it will be a close race between the Biola and Asusa Pacific women for first place.

While it Corncordia’s men look to sweep the freestyle events and relays Biola has a host of breastrokers up their sleeve including Kenneth Alcosiba, seeded first in the 200 breast and Rodney Lejeune seeded first in the 100. Even though the Biola women hold top times in three of the four relays, Asusa Pacific is still seeded to win the meet this weekend. Asusa Pacific’s host of women backstrokers including, Abigail Wiet who holds the top times in both backstroke events, will help the lady Cougar’s hold their top spot.
