MOR’s Abby Arens Stays Local, Verbally Commits to NC State for 2020

NEW COMMIT: NC State has earned a new in-state verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Raleigh, North Carolina’s Abby Arens.

Arens does her club swimming with Marlins of Raleigh and owns three U.S. Open cuts with a handful of addition Winter Junior standards. She was the 200 breast runner-up at Juniors East last month after placing fifth in the 100 breast, seventh in the 200 breast, 11th in the 200 IM and 14th in the 400 IM at Winter Nationals. She raced five events at Phillips 66 Nationals this past summer where she finaled in all three breaststroke events. The NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 100 breast with four additional top-10 finishes at NCSAs last March and won the 100 breast and 200 IM at the North Carolina 3A State Championships during her sophomore season while representing Saint Mary’s College Prep School.

She told Swimming World:

200 breast – 2:08.46
200 IM – 1:59.93
400 IM – 4:15.90
100 fly – 55.87
50 free – 23.42

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go, Arens will make an immediate impact when she arrives on campus at the start of the 2020-21 season. She will join a talented breaststroke group that includes Emma Muzzy, Julia Poole, Olivia Fisher, Brooke Rubendall and Kate Moore. She would’ve scored in the A-final of both breaststroke events at the 2018 ACC Championships where the Wolfpack finished third overall in the team standings.
