Powers didn’t have any downtime to celebrate his three wins in Hawaii at junior Pan Pacs, as he headed straight to Ann Arbor to begin his freshman year at the University of Michigan. He talks about the reality of being a Wolverine 15 months after making his verbal commitment, and why he didn’t have many expectations about life in Michigan. He relives the experience of being a team captain in Hawaii and what it felt like to be a veteran competitor at international competitions among his teenage teammates.
