Missouri Smokes Alabama in Dual Meet Sweep

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama, January 12.THE Mizzou swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet with Alabama Saturday at the Alabama Aquatic Center in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The No. 14 men's squad posted a 168-132 victory, while the No. 20 women's team claimed a 162-138 win.

Both squads picked up nine event titles during the day. Seniors Dominique Bouchard and Cassie Cunningham were both double winners on the women's side, while sophomore Igor Kozlovskij posted two event wins for the men. Bouchard took home both the 200 back (1:59.49) and 400 IM (4:27.61) and Cunningham was victorious in the 100 back (55.15) and 50 free (23.69). Kozlovkij won the 100 breast (56.07) and 100 fly (49.66).

Four other Tiger women also claimed event wins throughout the meet. Freshman Lauren Stoeckle clocked a time of 1:05.27 in the 100 breast to place first, while fellow freshman Anna Patterson finished first in the 200 fly in 2:07.70. Sophomore Danielle Barbiea dominated the 100 fly to place first in 54.80, almost two full seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

In the diving well, Loren Figueroa continued her impressive season with 309.40 points on the 1-meter springboard to claim first. The win kept Figueroa undefeated in the event this season.

Additionally, the women's 200 free relay team of Cunningham, sophomore Emily Doucette, senior Sydney Schaefer and Barbiea swam a 1:33.64 to take first.

On the men's side, Mizzou posted wins in five other swimming and both diving events. The 200 medley relay squad of sophomore Sam Tierney, junior Mark Conroy, senior John Krause and freshman Max Grodecki clocked a time of 1:30.19 to take top honors. Tierney also claimed an individual win in the 100 back (49.14), while sophomore Austin Fish won the 200 back (1:49.12), senior Jowan Qupty took home the 200 breast (2:02.51) and freshman Daniel Graviss was victorious in the 400 IM (4:00.15).

The Tiger men also swept the diving events, as junior David Bonuchi won the 1-meter springboard with a score of 327.25 and freshman Thomas Clark proved victorious in the 3-meter with 321.10 points.

Missouri returns to action on Friday, Jan. 25 as the team hosts Drury at the Mizzou Aquatic Center at 6 p.m.
