Minnesota’s Kyler Van Swol Ruled Ineligible

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, January 23. IN a huge blow to the Minnesota Golden Gophers' championship season, junior Kyler Van Swol has been ruled academically ineligible to compete this semester according to a Minnesota Athletics spokesperson.

Van Swol ranks second all time in the 200 fly at Minnesota with a 1:44.24, and is third all-time in the 100 fly in the school's record books with a 46.95. Minnesota will have a tough time replacing him the rest of this year.

Van Swol has had a strong start to his career in the pool, earning All-American honors in both his freshman and sophomore seasons. As a sophomore last year, he placed 12th in the 200 fly with a 1:44.42. He also helped Minnesota to 16th in the 800 free relay. He also clocked a strong 46.95 at the Big Ten Championships in the 100 fly, which wound up being the top time even though he did it out of the B final. He also was a huge part of Minnesota's dual meet lineup, winning 16 times during dual meet competition.

As a rookie, he was a part of both the 400 medley and 800 free relays that earned All-American certificates at the 2011 NCAA Division I Championships. He also took sixth in the 100 fly at Big Tens with a 47.05.
