Minnesota Signs Kyler Van Swol To National Letter of Intent

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, November 18. UNIVERSITY of Minnesota men's swimming and diving head coach Dennis Dale announced today that Kyler Van Swol (Frankfort, Ill.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Minnesota.

A senior at Lincoln-Way North High School, Van Swol was the Illinois state runner-up in the 100 butterfly as a junior. He was also an Illinois state finalist in the 100 backstroke, placing seventh. He was also a section champion in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly.

Van Swol placed 10th at the 2009 U.S. Junior Nationals in the 100-meter butterfly and also competed in the 100 backstroke.

He also competes for North Aquatic Club and coach Bill Magnuson. He swims for coach Pat Shaughnessy at Lincoln-Way North.

"We are very excited to have Kyler joining us at Minnesota," assistant coach Bill Tramel said. "His times are very fast. In fact, his long course 100 fly best time is just three-tenths slower than our school record. He is very athletic and also excels in water polo."

His top times are 48.20 in the 100 butterfly, 51.41 in the 100 backstroke and 1:51.31 in the 200 butterfly (short course yards) and 54.29 in the 100 butterfly (long course meters).

Van Swol is the third member of the 2009-10 Gopher Swimming signing class, joining Drew Johnson (Chaska, Minn.) and Brain Dailey-Arndt (St. Paul, Minn.).
