Midwestern Collegiate Conference Championships, Day Two

OMAHA, Nebraska, February 17. SENIOR Laura Kemp won the 200 individual medley, leading the UNO swimming and diving team to third-place standing after day two of the 2011 Midwestern Collegiate Championships at the HPER Swimming Pool on UNO's campus on Thursday. As a team, the Mavericks have 303 points, behind only St. Cloud State (380) and Minnesota State (311).

Kemp won her event with a first-place time of 2:06.62, worth 26 team points, while freshman Kylie Rathbone took fourth (2:08.56).

In the 500-yard freestyle, junior Amy Bechdolt was the highest-finishing Maverick, grabbing fourth with a mark of 5:13.38. Junior Kylie Hubbell was right behind her in fifth (5:14.19).

Sprint action in the 50-yard freestyle saw senior Cait Hopkins swim to a runner-up performance in 23.86, while junior Colleen Klaiber took third in 24.08. Hopkins, Klaiber and Bechdolt, along with freshman Maddie Hutt, made up UNO's 400 medley relay team that finished second (3:53.78) and earned 44 points.

Day three action of the Midwestern Collegiate Championships begins with the preliminary session at 10 a.m. on Friday at HPER Pool.
