Mid-American Conference Selects Swimmers of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio, December 5. THE Mid-American Conference announced its swimmers of the week on Tuesday. Miami's Karen Frazier and Ball State's Ben Karwoski garnered the weekly honors.

Helping the host RedHawks win the 13th Annual Miami Invitational, Frazier put together a banner weekend for the Red and White. The Placerville, Calif. native turned in her best performance of the weekend when she swam 1:03.41 in the 100 breaststroke, breaking the Miami varsity record for the second time this season and clocking in with a NCAA "B" cut in the event. The first-year swimmer also swam a leg on the first-place 200 medley relay team, which clocked in at 1:45.22 and finished third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:19.82. In her first season in Oxford, Frazer has set or tied the Miami 100 breaststroke varsity record three times after it had stood for nearly seven years.

Karwoski took home three first place finishes at the House of Champions held by IUPUI on Friday (Dec. 1) and Saturday (Dec. 2). Karwoski clocked in a 4:42.33 in the 500 free to win the event. He then earned a first place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:45.34. Karwoski closed out the weekend with a top finish in the 200 butterfly (1:57.06). Karwoski was also a member of the 800 yard free relay that placed first after clocking in a 7:11.71. Karwoski's success helped the Cardinals win the House of Champions with a team total of 938.5.
