Mid-American Conference: Day Two

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio, February 27. JACY Dyer and Meghan Reissig can add 2009 Mid-American Conference Champions to their list of accomplishments as Rockets after a record-breaking day in Bowling Green on Thursday. Dyer won her conference title in the 500 freestyle while Reissig repeated as the MAC champion in the 200 individual medley. UT leads the competition after the second day with 234 points.

Of the eight participants in the 500 freestyle, three of them were Rockets on Thursday and they all ended up near the top of the podium. Dyer, Laura Heckroth and Caitlin Cormack all donned the Midnight Blue and Gold for the championship in the event and combined for Toledo's first ever one-two-three finish at the MAC Championships. Dyer touched the wall in 4:45.50, shattering the Toledo record, MAC record, MAC Championship record and the pool record. Heckroth finished second with a personal-best time of 4:47.53 after finishing first in the morning preliminaries in a pool and Toledo record time that Dyer surpassed that night. Cormack finished the race in 4:48.14 for a personal best of her own and completing the one-two-three finish. Dyer, Heckroth and Cormack all provisionally qualify for nationals with their times.

Reissig earned her second consecutive title in the 200 IM with an outstanding time of 1:59.49, breaking the two minute mark and the Toledo, MAC, MAC Championship and BGSU pool records. Reissig also hit a NCAA B standard with her time. Teammate Kelsey Atchison also participated in the 200 IM final and finished sixth for the Rockets (2:02.46).

"I thought that it's impressive that we captured two titles and were able to go one-two-three in an event for the first time overall," said Head Coach Lars Jorgensen. "It was a great overall day and we're in first right now. We're excited and the ladies are competing hard."

Jacque Fate was in the 50 free final and posted a fifth-place finish with a time of 23.42. UT also had two sixth-place finishes on Thursday in the 200 freestyle relay and the one-meter diving. Fate, Atchison, Katie White and Amanda Thompson posted a time of 1:32.33 in the 200 free relay for sixth place while Brittany Teneyck racked up 251.40 points off the one-meter board for her sixth-place finish.

Competition continues on Friday with preliminaries at 11:00 a.m., diving at 1:00 p.m. and finals beginning at 7:00 p.m. The 2009 MAC Champion will be determined following finals on Saturday night.
