Michigan Scores Verbal From Hong Kong Freestyler Katii Tang
NEW COMMIT: Hong Kong’s Katii Tang has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Michigan and will arrive in Ann Arbor next fall as a member of the class of 2023.
Tang swims year-round with Victoria Shanghai Academy and most recently represented Hong Kong at the 18th Asian Games where she swam a trio of lifetime bests. She raced three events at the Festival of Sport in April and was a six-time finalist at the Asian Age Group Championships. Tang also finished third in the 800 SCM free and fourth in the 400 SCM free at the FINA Hong Kong World Cup last fall.
She told Swimming World:
“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at the University of Michigan! This is definitely a childhood dream come true for me. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported me along the way, my parents, family, coaches, friends, and teammates. I cannot wait to become part of the team and become a Wolverine. GO BLUE”
In LCM, her best times include:
- 100m free – 57.60
- 200m free – 2:01.68
- 400m free – 4:19.74
- 800m free – 8:56.78
- 1500m free – 17:08.39
In SCY, those times convert to:

When she suits up for the Wolverines at the start of the 2019-20 season, she’ll join a mid-distance training group that includes Sierra Schmidt and Caroline Sisson. Her best 200 free time (converted to yards) would’ve scored in the C-final of the 2018 Big Ten Championships where Michigan earned their third-straight conference crown.
