Michael Phelps, Bob Bowman Feed Speculation on Comeback With Photos

BALTIMORE, Maryland, June 10. MICHAEL Phelps showed up to his old stomping grounds at the Meadowbrook Aquatic Center today, and photos he and longtime coach Bob Bowman posted on Twitter and Instagram got fans salivating over the thought of the Olympic legend truly making a comeback to the sport.

But Bowman told Swimming World today that the photos of Phelps interacting with Bowman in and out of the pool were only for a photo shoot with one of Phelps' sponsors, and not an actual workout. Though Bowman would not name the sponsor, one of the photos from Phelps' two Tweets from the photo shoot suggests that the company was Speedo:

Below is another post from Phelps' Twitter account today:

One response to the photo, from cameronrumrill, simply said, “About time..,” while another fan had more to say.

“Please don't stop swimming. We all want you to go to Rio! You are too freaking awesome to stop. Just keep swimming… swimming… swimming……” wrote Instagram user brianna_serret.

Bowman and Phelps appear to be feeding the frenzy surrounding initial reports of Phelps making a comeback less than a year after his retirement announcement. In any case, Phelps' name continues to be in the public eye.

In Swimming World's last Poll of the Week, the majority of voters were in favor of a Phelps comeback.
