American sprinter Michael Andrew went head-to-head with World Record holder Vladimir Morozov on the final night of competition at the Beijing stop of the 2017 FINA World Cup circuit. Andrew earned a silver behind the world record holder and set his own World Junior record in the process by producing a 51.86.

Since FINA just started recognizing WJRs in SCM as of January 2015, Andrew is technically the first WJR holder in this event. Prior to Andrew setting the record, it had no name attached to it, only a “benchmark” established by FINA.

This swim marks Andrews’ sixth WJR of his career.
