Miami Women Take Down Houston; Adrianna Cera, Giulia Carvalho Shine
The University of Miami women took control early and never looked back, as the team dominated to a 194-104 win over Houston Friday.
The Canes began the meet with a tight 200 medley relay win, accomplished by a team of Leah Treglia, Simone Moll, Ashlyn Massey and Giulia Carvalho.
Adrianna Cera followed with a strong individual performance, taking home the 1000 freestyle in 9:57.47. She would also win the 500 freestyle later in the meet in 4:51.63.
Savannah Barr claimed the 200 free in 1:47.81, continuing a strong start for Miami. They would then score two more individual wins in incredibly tight races, with Mary Kate Kelley (54.44) and Simone Moll (1:00.41) winning the 100 back and the 100 breast, respectively. Kelley edged out Houston’s Lottie Cullen by 0.04, with Moll sneaking by Houston’s Evelyn Entrekin by 0.07.
Massey followed up her strong start with a win in the 200 fly, coming in at 1:54.83. Carvalho took over the meet by commandeering the sprint events. The senior won both the 50 and 100 Freestyle, coming in at 22.28 and 49.18. Kelley continued her strong backstroke swimming, beating out teammate Sarah Sensenbrenner for a win in 1:57.80.
Houston got their only win in the 200 breaststroke, as Flo Peter took the event in 2:12.99.
Massey took home the 100 fly in 54.16, while Marissa Inouye won the 400 IM in 4:17.52. The Hurricanes relay team of Sensebrenner, Barr, Carvalho and Cera capped off the meet with a win in the 200 free relay, finishing in 1:32.81.
Miami diver Chiara Pellacani won the 1-meter and the 3-meter, with scores of 335.25 and 396.60, respectively.
