Miami Defeats Florida International In Final Dual Meet

Miami travelled up the road on Saturday to compete against Florida International in their final dual meet of the season. The Hurricanes defeated the Panthers 205-95.

Miami began the meet by winning the 200 medley relay (1:43.86). They swept the 200 free, led by Ianire Casarin (1:48.12), and the 100 free, led by Julie Suarez (50.59)

Christina Leander was a triple event winner. Leander won the 100 back (55.00), 200 back (2:00.50), and led Miami’s sweep of the 200 IM (2:05.58).

Julia Schippert won both the 100 breast (1:05.25) and 200 breast (2:18.95), while teammate Angela Algee won both the 100 fly (54.58) and 200 fly (2:00.18).

Miami swept the 3m diving event, won by Marcela Maric (341.55), who also placed second in the 1m (288.95). Carolyn Chaney won the 1m (293.25) and took second in the 3m (310.55).

“As the ACC Championships draw closer, certainly the team is getting that much more amped up and honing in on all the little things,” head coach Andy Kershaw said in a Miami press release. “After the last meet, we talked about everybody committing to do even a better job at focusing in on all the fine details both in the pool and out of the pool – nutrition, rest, hydration, and all of that.”

Miami competes next at the ACC Championships in Greensboro.
