NEW COMMITS: The Florida State University men have received two verbal commitments for the Class of 2022, reeling in in-state swimmer Matthew Strickland and Poland’s Karol Ostrowski.

Matthew Strickland

Strickland is a freestyler, but also strong across the 200s. He swims for Swim Florida. He is a senior at Bishop Verot High School in Fort Meyers. His top times include:

  • 500 free – 4:31.68
  • 200 fly – 1:52.76
  • 200 back – 1:50.27
  • 200 free – 1:43.90

At last fall’s Florida 1A High School state championships Strickland touched sixth in the 500 free.

At last year’s ACC Championship junior Calvin Bryant was the only Seminole in the 500 freestyle. He’ll be graduated by Strickland’s arrival. Strickland is outside ACC scoring at the moment, but should be the perfect piece to fill a dual meet hole.

Karol Ostrowski

He’s a sprinter from Miejski Klub Plywacki in Szczecin, Poland. He represented his country at FINA World Juniors this summer. At that meet in Indy Ostrowski was a finalist in the 50 freestyle, finishing eighth. He also posted a 49.87 on the opening leg of Poland’s 400 freestyle relay.

Ostrowski announced, “I am excited to join the Seminoles.”

His top times LCM times are:

  • 50 Free- 22.72
  • 100 Free- 49.87
  • 200 Free- 1:50.55

Those convert to roughly 19 high, 43 mid and 1:36. Those should all put him in scoring range at the ACC Championships. Given his freestyle range, Ostrowski is also a potential competitor for some relay spots.
