Matt Macedo Joins The Race Club as Assistant Coach

ISLAMORADA, Florida, August 20. FORMER NCAA Champion swimmer Matt Macedo has been hired as assistant coach at The Race Club in Islamorada. He will lead the World Team II, a group of aspiring swimmers training side-by-side with Olympic athletes.

The Race Club is home to The World Team, a group of top international swimmers who own numerous Olympic medals between them. The World Team II is structured to be a training ground for swimmers hoping to qualify for the main World Team.

Macedo will also direct the Masters swim programs at Founders Park Islamorada and Jacob's Aquatic Center Key Largo, as well as assisting head coach Mike Bottom with The World Team and at The Race Club camps and clinics.

"Matt is one of the top up-and-coming young coaches in America," said Gary Hall, Jr., co-founder of The Race Club. "He has experienced success swimming under Mike Bottom, one of the leading sprint coaches in the world. This position gives him the opportunity to continue to learn from Mike and also pass on his passion for swimming to those he will coach here. He will be a great asset to The Race Club."

Macedo comes to The Race Club after three years of coaching at North Coast Aquatics in Carlsbad, Calif.

Macedo is also a 2003 graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in American Studies. He was a 20-time All-American swimmer at Cal under Mike Bottom. He swam on two NCAA championship relay teams and also represented the U.S. at the 2001 World University Games.
