Matt Anderson Named Head Coach Of USA Women’s Water Polo Senior National “B” Team

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California, July 28. MATT Anderson, the Head Coach of the University of Michigan Women's water polo team and a veteran of the USA National Team scene has been named Head Coach of the USA Women's Senior National "B" Team. Anderson has tabbed two other veterans of the college game to his staff in UCLA Women's Head Coach Brandon Brooks and Stanford University Assistant Coach Susan Ortwein. The staff will begin immediate preparation with the "B" Team for the 2011 World University Games set for next summer in Shenzhen, China.

Anderson owns a 236-89 record after eight seasons at the helm for the Maize and Blue of Michigan. A three-time Collegiate Water Polo Association Coach of the Year honoree and five-time division Coach of the Year, he has guided the Wolverines to eight division and four conference titles during his tenure. Anderson is one of just four coaches in school history to lead a women's team to 200 victories and the lone male in the group. In addition Anderson has been a long time assistant with the Men's Youth National Team under Head Coach Jason Lynch.

Brooks, a goalie on the 2004 and 2008 Men's Olympic Teams took over as Head Coach of UCLA Women's Water Polo in the fall of 2009. An Assistant Coach of the Women's Senior National Team that won the 2009 FINA World Championship, Brooks returns to the National Team scene fresh off a 2010 MPSF Tournament crown with the Bruins.

Ortwein has been a longtime assistant for the Stanford Cardinal as well as a coach with the Stanford Water Polo Club. The former Head Coach of the University of the Pacific and an Assistant for the Senior National Team in 1998, Ortwein played with the USA National Team in the early 90s helping the team to a third place finish at the 1991 FINA World Cup. As a collegiate player Ortwein was part of two National Championships won by the University of California-Santa Barbara in the late 80s.

The Senior "B" Team will feature some of the top college and recent college stars in the world of Women's Water Polo. The World University Games roster is limited to athletes that are still in college or are a year removed from college competition and the event is set for August 12-23, 2011 in Shenzhen, China.
