Masters World Records Set Ablaze in Arizona, Texas

PHOENIX, Arizona, November 23. THIRTY Masters world records fell over the weekend in short course meters competitions in Arizona and Texas.

The bulk of the world records – 23 – fell at the Ron Johnson Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. A small squad of swimmers from Colorado were responsible for most of the new marks, setting four relay and 10 individual marks.

Following is a list of the world records set in Tempe, with the old marks in parentheses:

And in San Antonio, Texas, at the PAC Masters meet, Ande Rasmussen set an individual world record for the 45-49 age group in the 100 IM with a 1:00.14. The former record was 1:00.29.

Rasmussen was also a part of three world record-setting relays in the 200-239 age group, as part of Longhorn Masters:

400 medley relay, 4:15.24 (no previous record) (Rasmussen, Jon Smiley, Maxwell Stinchcombe, Fred LeMaistre)

200 freestyle relay, 1:40.17 (1:40.71) (LeMaistre, Smiley, Stinchcombe, Rasmussen)

400 freestyle relay, 3:45.45 (4:00.74) (Le Maistre, Smiley, Stinchcombe, Rasmussen)

Longhorn Masters set two other relay records. In the 400 freestyle relay for the 120-159 age group. Marcio Menezes, Todd Bartee, Tyler Blessing and Mike Varozza swam a 3:31.87 to erase the month-old record of 3:40.32.

And the mixed 120-159 400 medley relay team of Erin McCleave, Blessing, Menezes and Amy Marsh swam a 4:13.93, the first recorded time in the event since FINA began recognizing Masters world records in the 400 and 800 relays in October.

In the meet's final event, the mixed 400 freestyle relay, the team of Meg Timms, Michael Walter, Kent Fryburger and John Dodds of FMS swam a 4:24.75 to post the first world record time in that event for the 120-159 age group.
