Maryland Signs Pair of Water Polo Players

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, December 4. UNIVERSITY of Maryland women's water polo head coach Carl Salyer has announced that Meghan Powers and Casey Mills have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Terps next season.

Powers hails from Los Altos, Calif., where she was captain of her high school water polo team. The team finished first in the competitive De Anza League, and third in the Central Coast Section. Powers was named first team All-League and to the CCS second team.

Salyer expects Powers to add an immediate scoring punch to the team.

"Meghan has proven herself as a very strong offensive player in a competitive nothern California league," said Salyer. "I think that Meghan will have a great impact on the team from the start."

Mills will come to Maryland from New York, where she played water polo for the renowned New York Athletic Club as a member of the Northeast Youth Zone Team.

Many former and current U.S. national team members got their start with NYAC.

"As a result," noted Salyer, "Casey has had the experience of practicing and playing with some of the top players in the country."

Mills will add depth for the Terps at the physically demanding centerback position. Her ability to post up will help anchor the Terps' offense.
