Mary T. Meagher-Plant Reminisces About Her Timeless Records

PHOENIX, Arizona, August 5. AT the 2008 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials, the meet record by Mary T. Meagher was challenged by a few swimmers, but Meagher's record remained intact after 24 years.

Meagher, now Mary Meagher-Plant, came to the Trials to watch the races, and stopped by the International Swimming Hall of Fame's exhibit of swimsuits dating back to the 1920s. On display was Meagher-Plant's swimsuit from the 1981, when she set her long-lasting world records in the 100 and 200 butterfly.

In this SwimmingWorld.TV interview that appears on page 29 of the August digital download issue of Swimming World Magazine, Meagher-Plant reminisces about her barrier-shattering swims.

"I think I was just really blessed in that particular swim," she said. "It was just something that just happened to me."

The segment ends with a display of medals from each Olympiad. The gold medal Meagher-Plant won in 1984 in the 200 butterfly was on display in the exhibit, and Meagher-Plant said 1984 "was a very good year for me."
