Mako Aquatics’ Gabby Vitela Announces Verbal to Bowling Green State
NEW COMMIT: Bowling Green State University has picked up a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Gabby Vitela of Woodbury, Minn.
Vitela does her club swimming with Mako Aquatics under head coach Bob Young and most recently earned three best times at NCSAs this past summer after placing fourth in both the 800m free and 1500m free at Minnesota LCM Seniors. Last winter, she recorded a lifetime best in the mile at Minnesota SCY Seniors before going on to race six events at NCSAs. Also competing for Woodbury High School, Vitela finished 15th in the 500 free as a sophomore at the Minnesota Class AA State Championships.
She told Swimming World:
“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Bowling Green State University. The moment I stepped on campus it felt like home. I want to thank my family, friends, and coaches for helping me reach this point! #gofalcons #bgsuaviation”
Her best times include:
- 500 free – 5:05.99
- 1000 free – 10:18.26
- 1650 free – 17:20.33
- 200 back – 2:05.70
- 400 IM – 4:31.57
Vitela will add valuable depth to the Falcons’ lineup when she arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024 and will add her talents to a training group led by Maddy Andrews and Daisy Platts. She is just on the brink of scoring range at the 2019 MAC Championships and has consistently made improvements each season.
