Maine’s Top Recruit Leila Johnston Heading to Warmer Climate; Commits to Florida State

BAR HARBOR, Maine, September 26. Late last night, Mount Desert Island YMCA’s Leila Johnston committed to attend Florida State University as part of the Class of 2015 for the Seminoles.

Johnston, the top ranked swimmer in the State of Maine by CollegeSwimming.com, is a YMCA nationals finalist from this past summer who brings some sprint speed to FSU’s squad.

Her top ranked times are all in the 50s with a 23.56 in the 50-yard free as well as a 28.51 in the 50-meter fly and a 31.17 in the 50-meter back.

Johnston also has a 51.60 in the 100-yard free on her resume, and was named the Swimmer of the Year in Maine as she led the MDI Trojans to the Class B State Championship for the second year in a row.
