Former University of Kentucky swimmer and team captain, Maclin Simpson, has been named assistant coach of the Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, it was announced by head coach Lars Jorgensen on Friday afternoon.

“Maclin is a hard-working young coach who will bring great energy to our program,” Jorgensen said. “I have always admired Maclin’s leadership skills, and I know he will help our program in many areas. We are excited to welcome him back home to the Big Blue Nation.”

Simpson, a Louisville, Kentucky, native, returns to his alma mater as an assistant coach after four years of professional experience in the sport of swimming. Simpson lived in Austin, Texas, as an associate producer for FloSwimming (2016-18). There, Simpson created innovative video and written content on a daily basis to assist in the growth of FloSwimming’s brand and the sport of swimming.

Simpson served as an assistant coach (2015) at Highlander Aquatics in Orlando, Florida, helping develop athletes of various levels of experience.

“First and foremost, I want to thank Lars Jorgensen for this incredible opportunity,” Simpson said. “I am honored and humbled to return home to Lexington and give back to the team, school and community that gave so much to me. What Lars and his coaching staff are building at Kentucky is truly special, and I can’t wait to help this team reach new heights.”

Simpson was a five-year letterwinner at Kentucky, swimming under former head coach Gary Conelly (2009-13) and current head coach Lars Jorgensen (2013-14). He served three seasons as the men’s team captain, and he specialized in butterfly and IM.

Simpson attended St. Xavier High School in Louisville and swam for Lakeside Swim Club. Simpson married his wife Morgan Simpson in 2019.
