Louisville Wins Three out of Four Relays on Night One of 2017 AT&T Winter Nationals

Action got underway last night in Columbus, Ohio with just relays being contested as the 2017 AT&T Winter Nationals commenced.

The University of Louisville proved they came to Columbus ready to race as they were able to win three out of the four total races on night one.

In the women’s 4×50 medley relay, the Cardinals put together a team of Alina KendziorMariia AstashkinaNastja Govejsek and Casey Fanz who produced a time of 1:36.86 to win themselves a national title. Louisville also captured the silver with their B team of Ashlyn Schoof, Avery Braunecker, Grace Oglesby and Laney Visscher who turned in a 1:37.95. The bronze was earned by Ohio State with their assembly of Marianne Kahmann, Molly Washko, Rebecca Luft and Freya Rayner in a time of 1:38.28.

The men’s 4×50 relay saw Cal’s pro squad of Ryan Murphy, Josh Prenot, Jacob Pebley and Nathan Adrian turn in a time of 1:24.58 for the gold while Louisville was about a second behind in 1:25.79 with their team of Nicolas Albiero, Carlos Claverie, Zach Harting and Andrej Barna. The bronze was awarded to OSU with their 1:26.03 produced by Mark Belanger, Jack Barone, Michael Salazar, Mossimo Chavez.

The 4×200 freestyle relay was next in the tank with the ladies going off first. Louisville took their gold medal and earned a meet record in the process. Their time of 6:58.41 dips just under the old record of 6:59.11, held by California-Berkley. OSU put together a team of Kathrin Demler, Kristen Romano, Katherine Trace and Meg Bailey who produced a time of 7:07.31. Louisville’s B relay earned the bronze with the group of Rachel Grooms, Casey Fanz, Graceanne Long and Emily Moser.

The men took their turn in the tank with Louisville earning the gold with their team of Barna, Albiero, Samuel Steele and Zach Harting who put together a 6:22.02. The OSU Buckeyes took the silver with a team of Andrew Loy, Paul Delakis, Brayden Seal and Nick Hogsed who turned in a 6:23.74. Third place went to Louisville’s B relay team comprised of Etay Gurevich, Jarrett Jones, Marcelo Acosta and Jonathan Zoucha in a time of 6:26.36.
