Los Angeles Invitational: Matt Grevers Sets Meet Record To Close Meet

LOS ANGELES, California, July 17. THE Los Angeles Invitational came to a close with Tucson Ford's Matt Grevers taking down a meet record in the long course meter format meet.

Grevers clipped the meet record in the men's 100 back with a 54.15. That swim beat the 54.19 set by Peter Marshall in 2009. Schroeder's Mitchell Friedemann placed second in 56.07, while teammate Adam Mania earned third in 56.16. Tucson Ford's Maggie Meyer raced to victory in the women's 100 back with a 1:01.76. Cal's Stephanie Au touched a close second in 1:01.99, while Tucson Ford's Lauren Smart placed third in 1:02.29.

Stanford's Elaine Breeden claimed the women's 100 fly in 59.27, while Trojan's Lyndsay De Paul took second in 59.33. Stanford's Felicia Lee picked up third in 1:00.01. Tucson Ford's Masayuki Kishida topped the men's 100 fly in 53.24. Cal's Tom Shields (53.38) and Tucson Ford's Giles Smith (53.50) rounded out the top three.

Tucson Ford's Annie Chandler hit the wall in 1:08.65 to win the women's 100 breast. Team Bruin's Keri Hehn, 30, finished second in 1:08.96, while Curl-Burke's Ellyn Baumgardner picked up third in 1:10.56. Cal's Nick Ferrif captured the men's 100 breast in 1:02.57, while Stanford's Curtis Lovelace took second in 1:02.62. Trojan's John Criste wound up third in 1:02.84.

Australia's Ellen Fullerton edged teammate Belinda Parslow, 2:00.59 to 2:00.97, in the women's 200 free. Stanford's Andie Taylor claimed third in 2:01.40. Australia's Leith Brodie followed in the men's 200 IM with a 2:01.59 for the win. Trojan's Tyler Harris placed second in 2:03.41, while Palo Alto's Ben Hinshaw took third in 2:03.54.

Aquazot's Megan Rankin captured the women's 1500 free in 16:33.22, while Mission Aurora's Bonnie Brandon took second in 16:42.29. New South Wales' Erin Killey placed third in 16:47.94. BCH Heatwave's Zane Grothe touched in 8:06.53 to win the men's 800 free. Santa Clara's Ryan Hinshaw took second in 8:13.84, while Palo Alto's Adam Hinshaw clocked in third with an 8:15.16.
