Lithuanian Youth and Junior Championships: Top Lithuanian Youths Showcase Talents

ALYTUS, Lithuania, June 24. THE Lithuanian Youth and Junior Championships wrapped up today in Alytus after two days of racing among swimmers age 14 through 18.

In the girl's 100m free, Vaiva Staraite (14 and under, 1:01.63) and Eva Gliozeryte (15-16, 1:00.49) came out on top, while Povilas Strazdas (16 and under, 52.23) and Dominykas Spudvilas (17-18, 52.56) were the fastest competitors on the boys' side.

Egle Svedaite (14 and under, 2:31.09) and Ugne Mazutaityte (15-16, 2:21.32) had the fastest 200m backstrokes of the girls' field. Tomas Pacerzinskas (16 and under, 2:15.72) and Gytis Stankevicius (17-18, 2:08.05) picked up wins in the boys' respective age groups.

In the 200m fly, Alina Taran (14 and under, 2:34.00) and Migle Juskaite (15-16, 2:39.27) came out victorious, while Gytis Bielinis (16 and under, 2:30.97) and Martynas Kasperavicius (17-18, 2:22.54) had the quickest times in the men's race.

Egle Svedaite captured her second win of the day in the girls' 14 and under 200m IM with a 2:39.43, while Vikte Labanauskaite won the 15-16 division in 2:29.83.Jevgenij Rogozin won the boys' 16 and under individual medley in 2:19.40 while Deividas Margevicius prevailed in the 17-18 division with a 2:10.85.

Ieva Burneikyte outlasted the field in the girls' 14 and under 400m free with a 4:53.65, while Eva Gliozeryte won her second event of the meet with a 4:41.07 in the 15-16 age group. Povilas Strazdas, already a winner of the 100m free in the boys' 16 and under division, showed some versatility with a win in the 400m at 4:03.45. Danas Rapsys won the 17-18 age group with a 4:03.03.

Vaiva Staraite, who won the girls' 14 and under 100m free earlier, added a win in the 100m breast with a 1:18.81. Dovile Mikoliunaite earned the victory in the 15-16 division with a 1:13.19. On the boys' side, Paulius Grigaliunas prevailed in 1:09.86 in the 16 and under race while Jevgenji Gamper had the best time in the 17-18 division at 1:05.09.

In the girls' 4x100m free relay, KPM's Bena Sarapaite, Emesta Kareckaite, Agne Gineviciute and Vaiva Staraite topped the field in 4:23.43. Pan Zem's Greta Remeikaite, Karina Kucaite, Beatrice Grigalionyte and Vikte Labanauskaite came out ahead with a 4:18.79. VVSM's Paulius Grigaliunas, Jevgenij Rogozin, Matas Bajorinas and Povilas Strazdas won in 3:42.98. KPM's Tadas Duskinas, Gytis Stankevicius, Tadas Leveris and Lukas Pranckevicius had the fastest time of 3:37.53.

In today's 200m freestyle, Ernesta Kareckaite had the best time in the 14 and under girls division at 2:18.31, while Aiste Kubiliute prevailed in the 15-16 age group at 2:17.43. Jevgenij Rogozin nearly broke the 2-minute barrier to win the boys' 16 and under event in 2:00.88. It marked his second win of the meet. Dominykas Spudvilas won the 17-18 race in 1:58.04, adding to his win earlier in the meet in the 100m free.

Vaiva Staraite picked up the breaststroke sweep and her third win overall with a winning time of 2:50.51 in the girls' 14 and under 200m breast. Vikte Labanauskaite earned the win in the 15-16 division with a 2:41.00, her second individual win of the competition. Povilas Strazdas (16 and under, 2:33.54) and Marius Mikalauskas (17-18, 2:21.87) earned victories in the boys' events.

Ernesta Kareckaite turned in the top time in the girls' 100m fly with a 1:09.79, while Migle Juskaite had the fastest time in the 15-16 division at 1:11.25. Pijus Mackevicius (16 and under, 59.43) and Tadas Duskinas (17-18, 55.81) captured titles in the boys' 100m fly races.

In the 100m back, Egle Svedaite (14 and under, 1:10.35) and Ugne Mazutaityte (15-16, 1:05.48) were the two fastest girls. Juozas Mackonis won the boys' 16 and under 100m back with a 1:01.41 while Gytis Stankevicius earned a narrow victory in the 17-18 division with a 58.46.

In the 400m IM, Alina Taran picked up her second individual win of the competition with a 5:23.07 in the 14 and under division, while Migle Juskaite (5:37.63) also picked up another win with a 5:37.63 in the 15-16 age group. Grantas Dapkus (4:56.24) and Deividas Margevicius (4:46.41) raced to wins in the boys' 16 and under and 17-18 divisions, respectively.

Vaiva Staraite won her fourth event of the weekend with a 28.30 in the 14 and under 50m free. Eva Gliozeryte won the 15-16 event in 27.12, while Jevgenji Rogozin (24.15) and Danas Rapsys (23.82) were first to the wall in the boys' 16 and under and 17-18 divisions.

KPM's Beatrice Kanapienyte, Ernesta Kareckaite, Vaiva Staraite and Bena Sarapaite claimed the 14 and under 4x100m medley relay crown in 4:47.45, while Pan Zem's Beatrice Grigalionyte, Karina Kucaite, Vikte Labanauskaite and Greta Remeikaite took home top honors in the 15-16 event in 4:45.64. VVSM's Eimantas Milius, Povilas Strazdas, Paulius Grigaliunas and Jevgenij Rogozin had the best 16 and under boys' relay at 4:06.59 while KPM's Gytis Stankevicius, Tadas Duskinas, Paulius Slevas and Tadas Leveris posted the top 17-18 time of 4:00.16.

In the final individual events of the weekend, Viktorija Sulgaite (14 and under, 10:21.20) and Vikte Labanauskaite (15-16, 9:45.67) prevailed in the girls' 800m free. Grantas Dapkus (16 and under, 16:56.23) and Vladimir Aripovskij (17-18, 17:45.41) had the best times in the boys' 1500m free.
