The Lindenwood University-Belleville swimming and diving team is excited to announce the recent signing of Assistant Coach Victor Polyakov to join the Lynx for the 2018-19 season.

Polyakov is from Taganrog, Russia and came to the United States in 2012 to swim at West Chester University Division II. During his freshman year, Polyakov beat the DII national record in the 500 freestyle at his first meet.

“The team atmosphere was really good my freshman year,” Polyakov said. “It was a very emotional year with good team leadership, a change in atmosphere, and ultimately the way I performed that year.”

In addition to breaking the 500 freestyle record, Polyakov won four titles at the national tournament his freshman year, and would eventually win his fifth national title his junior year; all five of them coming at a different event.

As Polyakov joins the Lynx for the 2018-19 season, his expectations for the swimmers are no different than from those of his collegiate career as a student-athlete.

“I think the most important aspect to being a student-athlete is the communication between the swimmer and the coach,” he said. “It is essential for any athlete to communicate with the coach as to avoid not being pushed so hard to the point where that student cannot complete their school work. Additionally, doing well in school has a tendency to build confidence for college athletes and vice versa. Our primary goal is to get our swimmers to graduate, and communicating effectively to the point of finding a balance between training and studying.”

The men’s swim team captured their third consecutive conference title last season in route to the national tournament, and Polyakov and Head Coach Ksenia Gromova are hopeful for a similar result this upcoming year.
