Lilly King Becomes First Woman to Win Eight Breaststroke Titles With 200 Win

Indiana senior Lilly King won her fourth straight 200 breaststroke title on Saturday night at the 2019 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships with a 2:02.90. King just missed her NCAA and American Record of 2:02.60 that she set last season. King held off a hard charge from Texas A&M senior Sydney Pickrem, who finished second at 2:03.65.

King is now the first woman to ever in Division I to win the 100 and 200 breast four times in her career.

Pickrem moved up to fourth all-time with her swim as she dropped nearly a full second off her best time.

NC State freshman Sophie Hansson finished in third place at 2:06.18 as she picked up her second straight third place finish after this meet after doing so in the 100 on Friday night. There were three freshmen in the A-Final with Indiana’s Noelle Peplowski (2:06.94) and Virginia’s Kaki Christensen (2:08.74) placing sixth and eighth.

South Carolina’s Emma Barksdale (2:06.87), Kentucky’s Bailey Bonnett (2:06.91) and Texas A&M’s Anna Belousova (2:07.05) also competed in the A-Final.

Indiana now has four NCAA titles in the 200 breast, all from King. She joins USC’s Rebecca Soni (2006-09) as four-time winners of the event.
