Libby Trickett Taking Break, Considering Retirement

SYDNEY, Australia, September 9. LIBBY Trickett, who has won six Olympics medals including three of the gold variety, is taking a break from swimming. She has also not ruled out retiring from the sport as part of the break, according to the Associated Press.

"I am having a break at the moment and retirement is on my mind, but it is not something that I have confirmed," Trickett said in a statement. "I love swimming and everything it has done for me. I will see where my head is at in a few months."

Should Trickett decide to retire, her final career numbers will be impressive. She owns three gold medals with an individual win in the 100 fly at the 2008 Beijing Olympics as well as a pair of relay victories for Australia in 2004 and 2008. In 2008, she also earned silver in the 100 free along with bronze in the 50 free in 2004.

Her incredible year in 2007 led her to a Swimming World Pacific Rim Female Swimmer of the Year honor. That year, she won five gold medals at the World Championships held in Melbourne.
