GREENSBORO-UVA’s Leah Smith set the NCAA record in the 500 free this morning (4:30.37). Tonight she won the race with her second fastest time ever, a 4:31.54. She won by two seconds and was not especially bummed that she didn’t swim faster at night. She’s a national champion after all.

Smith’s goal is to get the ball rolling for her team and her swims seems to be doing just that. UVA has swum lights out thus far. Here she talks about the team’s rapid progress and her role on the team.
