Lauren Pitzer Collects Two Wins on Final Night of Austin Sectionals

The final night of the 2017 Austin Speedo Sectionals concluded with athletes competing in the longest and shortest freestyle races on the schedule.

Lauren Pitzer of Lakeside Aquatics delivered top finishes in both the women’s 50 and 800 frees, leaving with two gold medals for the night.

Women’s 200 IM

Monika Gonzalez-Hermosillo of Aggie Swim Club took home a dominant win in the women’s 200 IM. She turned in a time of 2:15.70, to finish more than two seconds ahead of the competition.

Mckenna Debever, swimming unattached, finished second overall with a time of 2:18.39, while Esther Gonzalez Medina of Aggie Swim Club was third with a 2:19.06.

Men’s 200 IM

Longhorn Aquatics’ Samuel Stewart turned in a top time of 2:03.02 to earn gold in the men’s 200 IM.

Teo D’Alessandro, swimming unattached, picked up second with a time of 2:04.33, followed by Nitro Swimming’s Shaine Casas’ 2:05.73.

Women’s 800 Free

Lauren Pitzer of Lakeside Aquatics added to her medal collection with a top showing in the women’s 800 free. Pita stopped the clock at a time of 8:52.78 for the gold.

Mansfield Aquatics’ Haley Yelle took second overall with a final time of 8:54.49, while Texas Ford’s Ashlyn Fiorilli earned bronze with a 9:00.67.

David Forsyth of Alamo Area Aquatics outlasted the competition in the men’s 1500 free, delivering a top showing of 15:54.51.

Tiger Aquatics’ Mason Nyboer grabbed second with a 16:04.16, followed by North Texas Nadadores’ William Karau (16:07.17).

Women’s 50 Free

Lauren Pitzer of Lakeside Aquatics added a second gold to her name after a top showing in the 800 free, with a narrow victory in the 50. Pitzer out-touched Longhorn Aquatics’ Anelise Diener 26.14 to 26.15.

Emma Wheal rounded out the podium with a time of 26.24.

Men’s 50 Free

Tate Jackson of Longhorn Aquatics delivered the top time in the men’s 50 free, splashing to a final time of 22.54.

North Texas Nadadores’ Brett Ringgold took second overall with a 22.75, followed by a tie between Jeremy Nichols and Austin Swim Club’s Matthew Willenbring. The two posted matching times of 22.95 for the bronze.
