Laura Sogar Claims 200 Breast Prelim At USA Nationals
Laura Sogar bested the field in prelims of the women’s 200-meter breast at USA Nationals with her 2:25.16 this morning. Sogar dropped nearly a second and a half from her entry time and now holds a 1.17-second cushion over second-place finisher Emma Schoettmer. Sogar swam a very well-rounded race, as her splits indicate:
Sogar: 32.77/36.20/37.72/38.47
Schoettmer touched to a 2:26.33, while Emil Escobedo earned the third seed with a 2:27.64. Molly Hannis clocked a 2:27.94 to take fourth, while the University of Louisville’s Andrea Cottrell grabbed fifth in 2:28.04. Esther Gonzalez Medina trailed immediately behind Cottrell with a 2:28.09.
The number-one seed heading into the meet, Annie Lazor, fell to seventh with a 2:28.79. Annie Zhu ended up being the final qualifier for the championship final with a 2:28.79.
Tonight’s B Final will feature Justine Bowker (2:28.86), Miranda Tucker (2:29.44), Byanca Rodriguez (2:29.59), Haley Spencer (2:29.63), Emily Fogle (2:29.98), Madisyn Cox (2:30.16), Lilly King (2:30.65), and Georgia Bohl (2:30.69).
