Latin Cup: Federico Grabich Lowers Argentinean Record

MAR DE PLATA, Argentina, May 21. THE first night of long course meter action at the Latin Cup featured a national record fall by the wayside.

Argentina's Federico Grabich opened the meet with a national record in the men's 50 back. He clocked a 25.83, dipping under his 25.94 set last May. Italy's Mattia Torrini finished second in 26.49, while Colombia's Juan Molina placed third in 26.55. Colombia's Carolina Colorado topped the women's 50 back in 30.13, while Argentina's Andrea Eliana Berrino touched second in 30.15. Italy's Veronica Neri picked up third in 30.20.

Italy's Alex Di Giorgio won the men's 400 free in 3:55.53, while Brazil's Lucas Kanieski took second in 3:56.11. Venezuela's Cristian Quintero earned third in 3:56.12. Chile's Kristel Kobrich touched out Italy's Stefania Pirozzi, 4:14.33 to 4:14.43, for the women's 400 free win. Spain's Sara Canas earned third in 4:23.26.

Italy's Andrea Toniato claimed the men's 100 breast in 1:01.70, while Brazil's Raphael Rodrigues (1:03.33) and Spain's Fernando Morillas (1:04.69) rounded out the top three. Italy's Michela Guzzetti cruised in the women's 100 breast with a 1:10.98. Spain's Teresa Gutierrez placed second in 1:13.80, while Brazil's Raphaela Cunha took third in 1:15.12.

Italy's Lucio Spadaro cleared 23 seconds to win the men's 50 free in 22.87. Grabich returned with a second-place 23.06, while Brazil's Henrique Rodrigues finished third in 23.56. Italy's Silvia Di Pietro earned the women's 50 free title in 26.11. Brazil's Alessandra Marchioro (26.84) and Argentina's Berrino (26.93) completed the podium.

Brazil's Leonardo De Deus captured the men's 200 fly in 1:59.13, while Italy's Gabriele Landini touched second in 2:00.36. Colombia's Andres Montoya earned third in 2:03.00. Italy's Silvia Meschiari wound up winning the women's 200 fly in 2:13.74. Brazil's Julia Gerotto turned in a second-place 2:15.81, while Venezuela's Eliana Barrios placed third in 2:16.45.

Rodrigues turned his third-place finish in the 50 free into gold in the men's 200 IM with a 2:02.85. Italy's Giacomo Gremizzi took second in 2:05.38, while Ecuador's Esteban Enderica garnered third in 2:06.83. Italy's Camilla Dal Rio topped the women's 200 IM in 2:17.69. Argentina's Georgina Bardach touched second in 2:19.78, while Spain's Ana Isabel Vadillo placed third in 2:22.66.
