Lakeside Swim Team’s Cora Martin Lends the Hoyas Verbal Commitment
NEW COMMIT: Georgetown University has received a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Louisville, Ky. native Cora Martin.
Primarily a butterflyer and IMer, Martin does her club swimming with Lakeside Swim Team and most recently placed seventh in the 100m fly and eighth in the 200m fly at Kentucky LCM Seniors this past summer. Last winter, she raced to 10th in the 100 fly at the Speedo Music City Invitational before going on to race six events at the Southern Premier Invitational.
Also competing for Kentucky Country Day High School, Martin is a four-time Kentucky State Championship finalist. She finished ninth in the 100 fly as a junior while taking 11th in that event as well as 15th in the 200 IM during her sophomore season.
She told Swimming World:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Georgetown University. I would like to thank my family, coaches, friends and teammates for supporting me throughout this journey. Hoya Saxa!”
Her best times include:
- 100 fly – 57.33
- 200 fly – 2:04.92
- 200 IM – 2:10.52
- 400 IM – 4:34.92
Martin will make an immediate impact both individually and on medley relays when she gets to campus at the start of the 2020-21 season. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 200 fly as well as the B-final of the 100 fly and 400 IM at the 2019 Big East Championships where Georgetown finished third overall in the team standings.
