Kylee Alons, Eric Knowles Named ACC Swimmers of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State’s Eric Knowles has been named ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, and his Wolfpack teammate Holt Gray has been selected as the Diver of the Week. On the Women’s side, NC State’s Kylee Alons has been named Women’s Swimmer of the Week, and Virginia’s Sydney Dusel has been tabbed Diver of the Week.

It marks the third week in a row that NC State has had multiple swimmers and divers honored by the conference and the second week in a row that the Pack has swept the ACC Swimmer of the Week honors. Alons (ACC Women’s Swimmer of the Week) and Gray (ACC Men’s Diver of the Week) both garnered the honors for the second time this season, while this is Knowles’ first ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Week nod of his sophomore campaign and the first honors of his career.

Men’s Swimmer of the Week

Eric Knowles swept the distance events in the meet against the Cavaliers to tie in the lead for scoring for the Pack men. He started his outing by dropping the Wolfpack’s fastest 1000-yard freestyle time of the season, touching the wall in 9:02.15 for the first-place finish. He went on to also take first in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:23.48.

Men’s Diver of the Week

Holt Gray picked up a pair of podium finishes on both boards, including a win on the three-meter for the second straight meet. His three-meter score of 372.10 was not only good for first place but was also the third week in a row that he has posted an NCAA Zone score in the event. The Raleigh, N.C. native took second place on the one-meter, where he also tallied a Zone score of 330.60.

Women’s Swimmer of the Week

Kylee Alons continued to build on her strong freshman season and finished the meet against Virginia as the Wolfpack’s leading scorer for the second dual in a row. The Fort Collins, Colo. native opened the meet by setting a program record in the 200-yard butterfly after narrowly missing out on the school record a week ago. She took first place in the event in 1:57.03, an NCAA B cut time. Alons completed the sweep of the butterfly events with a top finish in the 100-yard butterfly in 52.93, and she also placed third in the 100-yard freestyle.

Women’s Diver of the Week

Sydney Dusel swept the 1m board over the weekend as the No. 5 Cavalier women concluded the regular season with a pair of dual meets against North Carolina and No. 6 NC State. Dusel’s score of 308.33 paced the 1m dive against North Carolina, while her score of 299.00 topped the meet against the Wolfpack. She added two second-place finishes on the 3m board to her weekend. She captured a score of 320.93 against the Tar Heels, before following with a score of 271.10 against the Wolfpack.
