ACC Honors NC State’s Andreas Vazaios, Mallory Comerford

NC State’s Andreas Vazaios has been selected as the ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, and Duke’s Nathaniel Hernandez has been named Diver of the Week. On the women’s side, Louisville’s Mallory Comerford has been selected as the ACC Women’s Swimmer of the Week, and Duke’s Maddi Pullinger has been tabbed as the Diver of the Week.

Vazaios was the top scorer for the ACC at the inaugural ACC/Big Ten Swimming & Diving Challenge, racking up 21 points for league. The senior from Athens, Greece, turned in four top-three finishes, including wins in the 200 back and 200 IM. Vazaios placed third in the 200 free, and was on the second-place 800 free relay team with teammate Jacob Molacek, Notre Dame’s Zach Yeadon and Georgia Tech’s Rodrigo Correia.

Hernandez posted a top-five finish on platform for the ACC at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The junior from Southlake, Texas, scored a 362.20 on platform, in addition to a 346.75 effort in the 3-meter competition, good for ninth place.

Comerford had a strong showing for the conference at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The senior from Kalamazoo, Michigan, became the first female swimmer in the NCAA this year to break 47 seconds in the 100 free, posting a time of 46.96, an NCAA automatic cut.

Pullinger shined for Duke at the Big Al Invitational with two wins and a second-place finish. The freshman from Sydney, Australia, won the 1-meter competition with a score of 293.15, and the 3-meter competition with a score of 327.35. Pullinger’s 233.70 on platform earned her second place.
