Kosuke Kitajima and Markus Rogan in Spotlight at Southern California Senior Meet

LONG BEACH, California, January 17. SWIMMING in his first meet since withdrawing from the Asian Games in November due to injury, Kosuke Kitajima posted some swift short course yards breaststroke times this holiday weekend at the Southern California Senior Meet at the Belmont Plaza Pool.

Kitajima, the 100 and 200 breast Olympic champion in 2004 and 2008, won the 200 breast in a speedy 1:53.44 on Sunday, then took the 100 in 52.23 tonight.

Kitajima's teammate at Trojan Swim Club, Austrian Olympian Markus Rogan, posted some impressive times of his own. Rogan, the silver medalist in both backstrokes at the 2004 Olympics and a competitor at last month's short course worlds, won the 200 back on Saturday in 1:44.59. On Sunday, he finished second behind Kitajima in the 200 breast with a 2:01.59.
