NEWPORT, VERMONT – August 6, 2018 – With Kingdom Swim 2018 now in the books, we head deeper into the miracle of summer with NEK Swim Week – 8 lakes over the course of 9 days in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and the Eastern Townships of Quebec from August 11 to August 19.

Saturday, August 11: Crystal; Sunday, August 12: Island Pond, Monday, August 13: Lac Massawippi; Tuesday, August 14: Lake Seymour; Wednesday, August 15: Echo Lake; Thursday, August 16: Province Island Swim; Saturday, August 18, Lake Willoughby; Sunday, August 19: Caspian Lake. The total distance if you swim all the lakes is 46 miles.  Several swimmers will attempt to double cross Massawippi and Willoughby, bringing the maximum total 60 miles of swimming

The swim week had its origins with the Lake Willoughby Swim in 2010 with 12 swimmers that first year.  We added Caspian in 2012 with 5 swimmers, and in 2013 organized local support in each lake to allow us to offer the full 8 days of swimming.  This year, the week has grown to 60 swimmers, swimming 160 days. They come from Ottawa, Montreal, California, South Carolina, Florida, West Virginia. Virginia, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Indiana, Texas, Delaware, Maine, Tennessee, DC, Arizona, Maryland, and all over Vermont.

The Village of Ayre’s Cliff and North Hatley along with Massawippi and North Hatley Marinas at each end of the lake are supporting the Massawippi Swim.  Willoughby is supported by the Westmore Fire and Rescue, Dempsey Tours, and White Caps Campground. Highland Lodge is providing support for the Caspian Swim.  Volunteer patrol boats on each of the other lakes make these swims possible. All swimmers are accompanied by escort kayakers. Kayakers and motor boaters who want to help are always welcome.

The swims are organized by Kingdom Games, which now hosts over 25 days of running, biking, swimming, and ice skating events in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and the Eastern Townships of Quebec.  It does this with the help and support of Community National Bank, RDI, Jay Peak, Eden Ice Cider, Newport City Inn & Suites, Burke Mountain, Passumpsic Savings Bank, Pomerleau Real Estate, Kingdom Trails, Caledonia Spirits, The EastSide Restaurant, Little Gnesta, Parker Pie, Lakeview Aviation, and Clyde River Recreation.
