Kenyon College Secures Set of Verbal Commitments from Sam Brown, Ian Lipton

NEW COMMITS: Kenyon College has received a pair of verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Glencoe, Ill. native Sam Brown and Ian Lipton of Bainbridge Island, Wash.

Kenyon is no stranger to success in the national spotlight, as they have won 57 NCAA DIII National Championship titles with a combined 529 individual and relay champions.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Kenyon College! Thanks to all of my coaches, friends, and family for helping me achieve this dream, and thanks to Coach Jess and Coach Fernando for giving me this amazing opportunity. Go Lords and Ladies!”

Brown does his club swimming with NASA Wildcat Aquatics and most recently finished 22nd in both the 100 breast and 200 breast at Illinois Seniors in March. Last summer, he finaled in the 200m breast at Illinois LCM Seniors before going on to earn two best times at Des Moines Futures.

His best times include:

  • 50 breast – 27.52
  • 100 breast – 58.50
  • 200 breast – 2:08.08
  • 200 IM – 2:02.69

Also competing for New Trier High School, Brown has raced at the Illinois State Championships the last two years. He won the 100 breast at the IHSA Niles North Sectional Championships as a junior and as a sophomore.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am very proud to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at Kenyon College. Big thanks to my parents, teammates and coaches for helping me reach this point. Shoutout to Coach Fernando and Coach Book for being so helpful throughout this process. Lets go win a Natty!”

Lipton trains year-round with Bainbridge Island Swim Club and raced to 13th in both backstroke events at the Washington Open in January after competed on relays at Juniors West. He placed fourth in the 200m back at Pacific Northwest LCM Seniors last summer before going on to finish 20th in that event at Mount Hood Futures.

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 24.32
  • 100 back – 51.65
  • 200 back – 1:53.67
  • 200 IM – 1:55.83

Currently a senior at Bainbridge Island High School, Lipton is a five-time Washington 3A State Championship finalist. He placed fifth in the 100 back and eighth in the 200 IM as a junior while taking eighth and 11th, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.
