NEW COMMIT: The University of Kentucky Wildcats have received a commitment from Allen, Texas native Jakob Clark who will arrive in Lexington this upcoming fall.
Primarily a mid-distance freestyler with strong IMs, Clark swims year-round with Metroplex Aquatics and owns a trio of Winter Junior standards. He just wrapped up a strong Juniors West meet last month where he finished tenth in the 500 free and 21st in the 400 IM. He won the 200 free and 500 free at the Lone Star Classic in November and earned eight top-15 finishes, including a win in the 200m free, at the American LCM Championships last summer.
Also representing Allen High School, Clark is a three-time UIL Texas 6A State Championship finalist. He placed sixth in the 500 free and 11th in the 200 IM as a junior after placing seventh in the 500 free during his sophomore season. Clark has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice in his career.
He told Swimming World:
“I committed to the University of Kentucky because as soon as I set foot on campus I knew that Kentucky was the right place for me both academically and athletically. The team made me feel instantly at home and the coaches have been very supportive and helpful throughout the recruiting process. I would like to thank my family, my teammates, and Metroplex Aquatics coaching staff for all their help and hard work with me.”
His best times include:
- 200 free – 1:38.76
- 500 free – 4:25.32
- 200 IM – 1:51.88
- 400 IM – 3:57.18
When he suits up for the Wildcats as a member of the class of 2023, Clark will join a mid-distance free training group that includes Jason Head and Hank Siefert as well as an IM squad led by Glen Brown. Although he’s not quite in scoring range at the SEC Championships yet, Clark has continuously made improvements each season.
