State record-holder Keefer Barnum of Saint Xavier High School and Lakeside Swim Team in Louisville, Kentucky has announced his verbal commitment to swim for the University of Virginia. In addition to claiming the top spot on the podium in the 100 breast at the KHSAA State Championships in 2016, Barnum also finished fifth in the 200 IM. Barnum’s 100 breast prelims swim of 54.96 set a new state record and his 25.32 breast split was also instrumental in helping Saint Xavier break the state record in the 200 medley relay.

A Summer Juniors qualifier in the 100/200 breast and 200/400 IM, Barnum will have an immediate scoring impact in Charlottesville as his best times would already earn him second swims in the ACC C finals of the 100 and 200 breast.

His best times are (SCY/LCM):

100 breast 54.69/1:03.97
200 breast 1:59.74/2:19.19
200 IM 1:51.70/2:07.96
400 IM 3:54.76/4:32.46

Barnum shared,

“I’m very excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at the University of Virginia. I love the team energy, the motivational coaching staff, and the world-class education. I’m very fortunate, and I’m really looking forward to the next four years. Go Hoos!”
