Keiko Derikoletis Downs 100 Fly Meet Record at CIF Southern Section D4 Meet

A few meet records fell tonight in finals of the CIF Southern Section Division 4 Championships.
Vistamar junior Keiko Derikoletis took down a nine year old meet record in the 100 butterfly. She stopped the clock in 55.97. The old mark stood at 56.16, swum by Kirstie Chen in 2008. Derikoletis also won the 500 free in 5:09.02.
Rowland’s Melinda Wang, Megan Geer, Meghan Chang, and Katelyn Nguyen turned in a 200 freestyle meet record with a 1:40.78, slashing nearly a second from the 1:41.56 set by Carpinteria in 2003. Wang, Geer, Rachel Song, and Nguyen teamed up to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:40.98.
La Salle’s Derek Chen was the only swimmer under two minutes in the men’s 200 IM as he stopped the clock in 1:56.75. His teammate James Torrez came up just shy of the 100 butterfly meet record, posting a 49.55, just off the mark of 49.47. Torrez got his name in the books in the 100 backstroke. The junior clocked a 49.42 to take down the old meet mark of 49.58.
Ocean View’s Dominic Falcon was a double winner. He won the 200 freestyle by over three seconds in 1:42.48. The junior then posted a 4:35.22 to claim the 500 freestyle by 24 seconds.
Nikki Cooper of Vistamar won twice. The sophomore posted a 1:00.54 in the 100 backstroke after a 1:57.31 in the 200 freestyle.
Nguyen of Rowland dominated the 200 IM with a 2:06.35, eight seconds ahead of the next best. She followed that up with a 100 breaststroke victory (1:06.41).
Santa Clarita’s Victoria Kirshner swept the women’s sprint freestyle events. The senior posted a 24.18 in the 50 freestyle and followed that up with a 52.86 in the 100.
Downey’s Maritza Ochoa, Nektaria Anagnostou, Alejandra Villa, and Valerie Vazquez topped the 200 medley relay (1:55.11). The men’s 200 medley relay went to La Salle’s Torrez, Nathan Lee, Chen, and Owen Hart (1:41.94).
San Dimas’ Cade Dady, Tyler Sorenson, Henry Landers, and Caldarone Jared posted a 1:29.81 to earn 200 freestyle relay gold. Swimming in the same order, the foursome won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:18.50.
Downey totaled 253 points to take home the women’s title ahead of Rowland (232.5) and Alta Loma (178).
Rowland ran away with the men’s meet, scoring 309 points. San Dimas was second with a score of 239.5 while Warren rounded out the top three (183).
