The Mesa stop of the 2016 Arena Pro Series runs this weekend from the 14th-16th, but before the racing begins a few of the top athletes competing took time to stop and talk to the media.

Distance superstar Katie Ledecky was the first press conference of the morning talking about a variety of topics including her current training, the upcoming meets and preparation as Omaha approaches, and looking forward to beginning her collegiate career at Stanford next fall.

When asked about her goals for the 2016 Rio Olympics Ledecky commented,

First off I have to get through Omaha. I don’t think anyone here is going to jump and say they’re going to Rio for sure. Just focusing on Omaha first and then if I am lucky enough to go to Rio. I want to compete to the best of my ability and represent my country well.

One major concern of the upcoming Olympics being held in Rio is the breakout of the Zika virus. One reporter questioned if any of her family or friends were considering not attending the Rio Olympics due to concerns regarding the virus. Ledecky responded with a positive attitude stating,

No, I haven’t heard anything like that. I think everyone’s confident that the USOC, USA Swimming, the CDC will all put forth all the information that we need to be prepared for that and that we’ll all be good to go.
