Katie Ledecky Lowers 200 Free National High School Mark (Race Video)

BOYDS – Katie Ledecky lowered her own National High School record a day after blasting her 500-yard free American mark.

Ledecky charged her way to a 1:41.55 in the 200-yard free finale tonight at the 2015 D.C. Metro Championships.

Ledecky’s time downed her previous record of 1:41.82 from just a week ago at a sectional meet.

Ledecky is certainly going out in style from her high school career at Stone Ridge as she’s putting on a show here at Metros – her final high school competition.

Ledecky will soon make her decision public on whether she will take a gap year to focus on the 2016 Rio Olympics or enroll immediately at Stanford University this fall.

Missy Franklin still holds the top time ever with an American record 1:40.31, while Ledecky’s time tonight stands sixth all time.

Ledecky followed her 200 free record with the second-fastest time ever in the 500-yard free.  She blasted a time of 4:27.88 to win the championship title.

That’s just off Ledecky’s record of 4:26.58 set during prelims last night.

Ledecky is so far ahead of the rest of history in this event, she’s the only person ever to break 4:30 and has the top four times all the way down into the 4:26 range.

Ledecky closed her high school career with a sizzling 22.34 anchor leg for Stone Ridge’s 200-yard free relay second-place finish of 1:36.98.  Only Holton-Arms’ Caroline McTaggart had a faster split with a 22.30 for their winning 1:35.59. McTaggart was the sprint queen this meet with wins in the 50 (22.69) and 100 (48.75) freestyle events.
