Kathleen Baker Replaces Sarah Denninghoff on Team USA’s Duel in the Pool Roster

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 28. TEAM USA’s roster for the Duel in the Pool got a bit of a shake-up over the weekend, with Kathleen Baker replacing Sarah Denninghoff as one of the team’s backstrokers.

Denninghoff’s place on the team was announced publicly by the University of Texas on October 14, about a week before USA Swimming released the official list of swimmers attending the meet featuring the European All-Stars on December 20 and 21. Denninghoff, a senior at Texas, has not competed for the Longhorns yet this season, which might have hurt the team in their dual-meet losses against North Carolina and Texas A&M.

An email request for comment from the Texas swimming staff was not immediately returned.

Baker has plenty of talent in backstroke. She won the silver medal in the 200 back at last summer’s world junior championships, and swam in the finals of that event at the USA Swimming nationals, where she posted a lifetime best of 2:10.23.

Her addition to the Duel in the Pool roster means Baker will not be attending the World Cup meets with the junior team next month. She has been removed from that traveling team list on the USA Swimming website.
