Kate Ziegler Suffering Flu Symptoms, Scratching Events Daily at U.S. Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, July 8. ACCORDING to a report by the Washington Post, Kate Ziegler has been suffering from flu-like symptoms since last week and has yet to travel to Indianapolis for the USA Swimming National Championships.

According to the article, Ziegler still holds onto a sliver of hope to make nationals by the time the women's 800 freestyle begins on Friday.

"I will leave the option open to go — at least I might try — but I also feel I have to be at least somewhat realistic," Ziegler told the Washington Post. "Maybe it wasn't my time this time around."

Ziegler also told the Washington Post that four swimmers on her club team, The FISH, contracted the H1N1 flu (also known as swine flu).

While Ziegler has not yet been diagnosed specifically with H1N1, there is a strong likelihood that the virus has claimed a second world-class swimmer this summer as Matt Jaukovic had to withdraw from the World University Games after succumbing to H1N1.
