CONCORD, California, May 16. LAST week, Kasey Carlson set what was thought to be the first sub-59 second 100-yard breast in girls high school history. The swim took place at the Diablo Foothill Athletic League Championships, but was later taken away due to apparent touchpad malfunctions according to InsideBayArea.com.
Carlson, a Swimming World six-star recruit, did not take long to rectify the situation on her own. During the CIF North Coast Sectional prelims, Carlson blazed to a 58.75 while representing Las Lomas High.
That effort not only cleared what previously looked to have been her record of 58.89 last week, it crushed the standing record of 59.20 set by Jessica Hardy in 2005. The performance also pulled Carlson to within a second of Tara Kirk's American record of 57.77.
