NEW COMMITS: The University of Virginia swimming program has picked up a pair of verbal commitments for the class of 2022 from NISCA All-Americans Kaki Christensen and Casey Storch.

Kaki Christensen

Christensen, who swims for Darien High School, is the reigning Connecticut Class L state champion in both the 200 IM (2:02.42) and the 100 breast (1:01.93) as well as the Connecticut high school state record holder in the 100 breast. Attesting to her versatility, Christensen anchored Darien’s 200 free relay (23.2) and 400 free relay (51.1).

Christensen competes year-round for Chelsea Piers Athletic Club. She had an impressive summer season, producing a pair of fourth place finishes in the breastrokes (100 breast–1:10.72 and 200 breast– 2:32.29) at Summer Junior Nationals. She also competed at Summer Nationals and in the 200 IM (22nd place) and 400 IM. She swam the 50/100/200 breast at Summer Nationals and World Championship Trials,

Top SCY times:

  • 100 breast – 1:01.02
  • 200 breast – 2:13.13
  • 200 IM – 2:02.42
  • 400 IM—4:18.94
  • 100 free – 51.96

Christensen’s best times in the breaststrokes would have put her in the B final for both events with Vivian Tafuto in seventh, Mary Tansill in 13th, and Madeleine Vonderhaar in 16th will all still be on campus when Christensen arrives in Charlottesville.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to UVA, I can’t wait to spend the next four years with a great coaching staff and teammates. Wahoowa!!”

Casey Storch

Storch, who lives in Great Fall, Virginia and swims for Langley High School, is the defending two-time 6A Virginia state champion in the 200 IM (1:48.80). Storch was also fourth in the breaststroke (55.93) and, displaying versatility similar to Christensen, anchored Langley’s 200 free relay (20.86 prelims split) and 400 free relay (45.53 prelims split).

Storch does his year-round swimming with Machine Aquatics. Competing this summer at the 2017 Phillips National Championships he recorded PBs in the 100 breast (1:05.24), 400 IM (4:31.53), and 200 Breast (2:20.50). He followed that up with strong swims the following month at NCSA Summer Championships, earning a pair of 5th place finishes in the 100 breast (1:04.10) and 400 IM (4:26.22) and a 7th in the 200 IM (2:06.32).

Best Times SCY:

  • 100 breast—55.32
  • 200 breast—1:58.41
  • 200 IM—1:48.29
  • 400 IM—3:49.11

When he arrives on campus in the fall of 2018, Storch will be a welcome addition to the Cavalier’s breast/IM groups. His current best times would have earned him swims in the B finals of the 2017 ACC Championships in both the 400 IM and the 200 breast.
